Tasting notes Nose/Aromas: Clean with low/medium intensity of raspberry and licorice. Palate: Dry, (with a slight sweet attack) with low tannins and medium-low acidity. The light to medium intensity of fruit characteristics are ripe red cherries (ripe red fruit). (I could be incorrect in stating that this is a similar profile to a Beaujolais although this wine is not made from the Gamay grape). No indication of alcohol burn (the alcohol level = 14.5%) indicating alcohol is well integrated into the wine. Finish/Length: Clean, moderate length on the finish of the fruit ripe cherries. Food pairing A perfect wine to enjoy with everyday meals from grilled red and white meats to simple pasta dishes. Learn More

This Shiraz-dominated red blend is on the lighter side. The color is a translucent dusty red cherry. The alcohol, a modest 13%. In the nose, ample cranberry, currant, plum, and cherry cough drop mix with vanilla and cinnamon spice. The same flavor profile is evident in the mouth, picking up some licorice root and smooth, earthy tannins. Finally, this red finishes with a kiss of sweet red fruit. Delightful on its own, it can be paired with lamb chops or even that staple of Australian street food, curried kangaroo. A Value Vino. Learn More

    Botani Moscatel Dry 2013

    $18.94

    Size 750ML

Mas Sorrer captures the charm of the region of Montsant with its steep slopes of old vine Garnacha and Cariñena that has inspired Sara Perez and Rene Barbier, Jr. the same way that Priorat did to their parents 20 years ago. Formerly known as the Fallset subzone of Taragona, Montsant’s 2,000 ha of vineyards were given their own DO in order to highlight their superior quality in 2001. The grand Montsant escarpment that gives this region its name rises majestically over diverse parcels that range from granitic sand around Falset, to compacted calcareous soil, to sites covered in codols (pebbles and larger rounded stones) to slate in others. This soil diversity coupled with the large number of old vines, gives Montsant wines their distinct element of terroir and complexity. Learn More

  23. Alexakis Syrah Kotsifali

    Alexakis Syrah Kotsifali

    $18.99

    Size 750ML

This wine comes from the large Greek island of Crete, which lies almost due south of the center of the Greek mainland. It’s made from Syrah (40%) and Kotsifali (60%), an indigenous grape in Crete. The Alexakis family members all work in the winery and vineyards; the family has been involved in winemaking there for many years. Today Alexakis is Crete’s largest privately-owned winery. Kotsifali makes wines that are aromatic, with full body, low acidity, and soft tannins, and light color (due to thin skins), sort of a more-scented version of Grenache. After fermentation, the wine was aged in French and American oak barrels (50% new) for 2 years. This particular blend is medium in color depth and body, with an attractive peppery-spicy aromatic quality that is reminiscent of red Cotes du Rhone wines. It has a strong enough personality that it matches nicely with Greek dishes, and also most of what we’d call the prime ingredients of Mediterranean cuisine: olives, peppers, lamb, pork, herbs, and don’t forget the garlic! Decugnano Dei Barbi Villa Barbi Rosso 2014

    $20.99

    Size 750ML

The Villa Barbi Rosso is sourced from estate vineyards, grown in soils with fossilized shells and oysters. The soil type dates back to the Pliocene Age, of marine origin, this is where all the rich nutrients are from. The vines range in age from 15 to 30 years. They are planted 320 meters above sea level, on southwest and southeast facing slopes. Vineyards are planted facing south, in the northern hemisphere, maximizing the vine's exposure to the sun. The ideal amount of sun helps to ensure that the grapes ripen fully and evenly by the time they are ready to harvest. This is a blend of 34% Sangiovese, and equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The wine is vinified and aged in stainless steel, meaning all the toasty and oak flavours have come purely from the fruit rather than oak barrels. Claudio Barbi started Decugnano dei Barbi in 1973, with the first wines produced in 1978. Enjoy over the next 2 years, chilled to 16C. Learn More

San Felice Chianti Classico is a beautiful wine from the most famous appellation of Tuscany. Agricola San Felice is steeped in local lore and history. Named after a local early Christian saint from the 18th century, the property was bought by the Grisaldi Del Taja family - the founding members of the Chianti Classico consortium. The family produced wine for several centuries until 1968 when the estate passed to Enzo Morganti. Today the property includes a 1,853 acre resort, 445 acres of vineyards and a 44 acre parcel dedicated to experimental viticulture and genetic improvement of Sangiovese. The San Felice vineyards are situated among the gently rolling hills of the Castelnuovo Berardenga area of Chianti Classico. Wine Spectator rated this vintage 91 points--a true wine gem! San Felice Chianti Classico is a traditional Tuscan blend of Sangiovese, Colorino and Pugnitello. It is deep ruby red in color with aromas of dark cherry, raspberry and sweet violets. Medium in body with moderate acidity and silky tannins, this red offers flavors of black cherry, blackberry and plum, with well integrated sweet oak. Aged for 10-12 months in French oak followed by an additional two months of bottle aging, it is nicely balanced to enjoy now or to cellar for 5-6 years. The finish is rich, long and polished. The wine is matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, fined with egg whites and aged in the bottle for one year. One is a sandy, clayey parcel located just outside of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, where scorching summer temperatures give plump ripeness and velvety texture. The other is a much cooler vineyard; harvest takes place two full weeks later. Planted at higher altitude on limestone at the base of Mont Ventoux, this plot contributes freshness and aromatics to the blend.
